The problems of migration and integration of minorities in eastern Croatia

Osijek, 25th of November 2013 - Youth of CPP in front of CPP's Political Academy participated in the seminar "Migration, integration of minorities, borders - the study of migration and integration of minorities in eastern Croatia". The seminar organized by the European Liberal Forum and the German liberal Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom was held in Osijek from 23rd to 24th November and the participants were Youth of CPP and LDP.

Project Manager of Friedrich Naumann Foundation for the Western Balkans, Charles du Vinage presented the Foundation's work in this area and noted how it enables a scholarship to study at the International Academy for Leadership and for studying in Germany. He also invited all interested parties to sign up and take advantage of the opportunities provided.

Guests of the seminar were CPP's MP Ivica Mandić, Deputy Mayor of the City of Osijek Vladimir Ham and Stjepan Čuraj, member of County Assembly of Osječko-baranjska county and president of CPP's Osječko-baranjska county organization. Zvonimir Klobučar, the president of the Youth and member of Presidency of the CPP welcomed all attendees.
Introduction to the topic of the seminar and the first panel gave Dušan Dinić, regional coordinator of the Foundation for the Western Balkan countries and gave the word to the guests who expressed their thinking. The first part of the seminar was led by writer Julijana Adamović and they discussed the tensions in Vukovar, the background of the problem and possible solutions. Journalist of Radio Osijek Tatjana Mautner moderated the discussion on media issues and reporting. The second working day of the seminar began with a lecture of publicist Borislav Ristić on a liberal view of the rights of minorities in relation to human rights, and Filip Škiljan from the Institute for Migration and Minorities from Zagreb, held a lecture on migration and integration issues in the past and led the debate on liberal politics for the future.

Two days of meetings passed the conclusions of the seminar, which indicate on major problem in functioning of minorities in Croatia and their problems within the legal framework and society in general.
