Zagreb, 3rd of July – Organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for freedom, a seminar of liberal regional politicians of West Balkans countries titled “Entering the EU and local self-governance“ was held in Zlatibor from the 28th to the 30th of June. The Croatian People's Party – liberal democrats and CPP's Political Academy were represented by Alen Kajmović, spokesman of CPP's Međimurska organisation.
Kajmović held a presentation on the subject of “Međimurska County – cross-border cooperation with EU countries and possibilities of using pre-accession funds“, which he linked with the subject of organisation of the local elections, that is the concrete example of success in Međimurje.
“Međimurje's positive example is something that must be nurtured and presented at every possible opportunity because all the gathered experiences, especially in the last few years are extremely valuable. A dozen various agreements signed with various regions of Europe and around eighty realised projects from which thirty million euros were pulled speaks enough about the work done“, highlighted Kajmović during the presentation of Međimurje's european story.
However, the attendees showed special interest in the presentation about the organisation of the elections, considering their forthcoming elections.
“When he became CPP's Međimurska CO president in 2008, Matija Posavec said that a system must be created. And he was completely correct. Without a system you don't have control over the election result, you have no overview, nor control over the situation. And he who wants to win the elections must have vision, a goal and a system. It is in this way that you don't depend on the weather on election day, as well as coincidence and luck, rather yourself and the people with which you are surrounded“, emphasized Kajmović.
“The result of this system after five years of work is Head of County, deputy Head of County, six Municipality Heads, 8 deputy Municipality Heads. The result is also a growth of the party on the county level and Matija Posavec's victory in 20 of 25 municipalities and towns in Međimurje“, concluded the spokesman of Međimurska County.
An exchange of experiences such as this one is extremely grateful, because although some activities cannot be carried out equally in every area, ideas are what move people and incite them to think about how to apply something.
Apart from liberal party attendees from Croatia, the seminar was also attended by colleagues from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Kosovo, and one of the main topics was Croatia's entry to the European Union.
