Liberals of West Balkans countries on advancing human rights

konferencija Beograd elfBelgrade – 19th of June – A seminar titled "Migration and integration: a constant topic for populists, or an opportunity for liberals to advance their programme on the subject of human rights" was held, sponsored by the European parliament, organized by the European liberal forum, the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for freedom and the Novum institute.

On the seminar, there was talk about immigration and migration of West Balkans countries and their influence on political development in the region where a plethora of experts participated.

Emilio Cocco, sociologist and professor on the University of Teramo, spoke about the glance on migrations from West Balkans countries in the last half century with the problem of integration in EU countries. The president of the NOVUM institute and chairwoman of the administrative committee of the European liberal forum Felicita Medved explained the process of transition from an emigrational to an immigrational country on an example study of Slovenia to everyone present, while Jelena Grujić, an independent researcher in the field of migrations on an example study of Serbia explained the mutual influences of immigration and politics.

The Croatian People's Party – liberal democrats and CPP's Political Academy was represented by parliamentary representative Ivica Mandić. Mandić spoke about the immigration and migration policy of Croatia towards the diaspora and offered possible ways of solving and cooperation. He also took part in a panel discussion about liberal answers on the subject of migrations in the Western Balkans.

A seminar titled "Western Balkans countries between emigration and immigration and their influence on political development in the region" was moderated by Dušan Dinić, regional coordinator of the Foundation and Edita Barać – Savić, assistant on the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for freedom's projects.
