Blažeković: The Law of public order and peace should be withdrawn

boris objasnjenje prijedlog zakonaZagreb, 19th of February – "The proposal of the law about transgressions against public order and peace on the whole gives the impression of a law about public decency and moral, not of a law about public order and peace. In this context, some clauses which are very important, and relate to public order and peace should be inserted into some other laws, and this law, as it is, shouldn't be passed at all", warned CPP's parliamentary representative and Academy director Boris Blažeković and noted that it should be withdrawn from the Parliament's procedure in that regard and stated the absurdity of the penalties it envisions.

When asked as to whether CPP discussed this law with its coalitional partners, he answered that CPP's representatives expressed their point of view on parliamentary committees and withheld their opinion upon decision. In order to reach an agreement on the law, he highlighted the modification and improvement of certain clauses as necessary.

"The goal is not for a scandal to be created, rather the improvement of the conditions and freedom of the citizens, but in a certain context and within order and peace. I believe that it would be good to bring this about either through numerous amendments, but so many of them would be required that it would maybe be a better idea for this law to be withdrawn from the procedure and for it to "wither away". In any case, a serious discussion should be made about the clause of that law", said Blažeković.
