"It will increase the representativeness and democratization and already at the next elections each candidate list will have to have at least 40 percent of each gender. Those lists that will not respect these provisions will not be valid. This is a huge step forward in gender equality, because at the last parliamentary elections 24 percent of women were elected, in those past 23, and similarly to the previous ones. The number of women in politics is growing, but too slowly", said König.

As König said, with the new Election Law the possibility of preferential voting was introduced, which will enable citizens to influence more on the election of representatives.

"Equal participation of both sexes in political life is good not only for women, but also for the entire society. There are studies that show that the local government run by women is usually more successful and have higher development index", said König, adding that the Croatian society is still patriarchal. She also noted women have double burden, as one of the reasons why women in politics are still a minority.

König spoke in Karlovac about the role and position of women in politics and the new election law within the second department of CPP's Political Academy for advanced education in general policy. She spoke with the citizens of Karlovac on the main square. Also, during her visit to Karlovac, König participated in the action of CPP's Women's Initiative of Karlovačka County on the occasion of Valentine's Day.
