Split, 25th of February 2014 -"It is the responsibility of all parties, and especially CPP, to give people the knowledge, resources and energy in order for them to turn to their own knowledge and capability and use them to change society for the better from the apathy that currently reigns in our society", said Boris Blažeković, director of the Academy and CPP's parliamentary representative when starting a public discussion about the founding values of liberalism.
"Without liberalism there wouldn't be realisation of freedoms that exists in today's world, but along with those freedoms comes responsibility for what is done. Through education and building of values we achieve consciousness about those freedoms and responsibilities", highlighted the director of the Academy in the continuation of his lecture.
Apart from speaking about the basic principles of liberal policy and relations to the individual and his basic rights, Blažeković glanced on CPP's position in Croatia and highlighted that the state should be in the service of the individual.
"If man is an individual, a free individual born with basic founding rights, liberal policy considers that everything should be subservient to the possibility of that same man to realise his rights in a community called a state". We consider the state to be a social contract, which we, the citizens have freely decided that we want a state. It is due to this that this same state should be in the service of us, and not us in the service of the state", said Blažeković.
At the end Blažeković highlighted that CPP has a clear and firm position in Croatia's politics from 1990 to today.
"Today we are the third party by political strength in Croatia, while organisationally we are second. We are a larger party than SDP and today we have 42 thousand members, 438 organisational forms in all counties and it is by that alone that our position is meaningful and what our representatives propagate is a policy which is of interest for this country", said Blažeković.
The Academy's director concluded that freedom of thought, freedom of ideas and a free market with as small an influence of the state as possible are the foundations of liberalism. According to Blažeković, the current economic crysis is a result of strying away from the psotulates of liberalism.
The President of CPP's splitsko-dalmatinska County Klement Bašić highlighted the importance of respecting human freedoms.
"In the basis of liberalism there is an imperative of respecting human freedoms and responsiblities. In that sense CPP's position is important because it promotes human rights of every man as foundations of a democratic society, and at the same time it promotes populism as a climate in which the realisation of human rights grows for the well-being of one nation", said Bašić.
Goran Kovačević, President of CPP's Split subsidiary and deputy Mayor of the City of Split said that CPP as a liberal party has the task of constantly strengthening the consciousness about the development of a liberal democratic society.
The event was held as part of the Academy's 2nd Department for additional education in general politics in cooperation with CPP's splitsko-dalmatinska organisation.
