Zagreb, 2nd December 2015 - Organized by the German liberal Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom, European Liberal Forum and the Bulgarian non-governmental institute LIPA (Liberal Institute for Policy Analysis), in Sofia on 25th November 2015 was held a round table with international participation titled "Teaching Democracy: Education and active citizenship". Croatian People's Party - Liberal Democrats, International Education Centre and CPP's Political Academy was presented by a professor Borislav Grgin, vice president of the Interest Board for Education of CPP's organization of City of Zagreb.
At the round table dedicated to the role of education for active citizenship, civic education in schools and out of them, the role of formal and informal education in strengthening critical and civic awareness with a focus on Bulgaria, participated twenty experts from several countries. Among them were representatives of the Bulgarian institutions - Ministry of Education, the relevant agencies, secondary and primary schools as well as representatives of civil organizations, NGOs, associations of parents and others.
As one of the two foreign guests Borislav Grgin welcomed those present at the meeting on behalf of the CPP, its Political Academy and IEC and expressed a personal view on the discussed issues, pointing out the party's position on the need to incorporate civic education at all levels and types of formal and informal education, advocacy for inclusion in education and the importance of lifelong learning. He stressed the importance of the activities and achievements of CPP's Academy. He especially emphasized the need for a new approach to human and social subjects in schools, especially in teaching the national language and history, in order to encourage construction of critical awareness towards the establishment of self-reliant citizens.
It can be concluded that the round table will certainly contribute to strengthening the visibility of liberal proposals, principles and goals in the Bulgarian society. The participation of CPP's representatives at this meeting was important in order to expand the network of international relations and ties between people and institutions of our party and our colleagues in Southeast Europe and in getting to know the positions and achievements of the CPP and institutions of the Republic of Croatia.
