Zagreb, 20th October 2014. - In Zagreb alumni meeting was held with participants from Croatian liberal parties who participated in seminars organized by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom and the International Academy for Leadership.
The meeting discussed possible ways of Croatia reaching the end of the economic crisis, and was attended by Valentin Gescher, Head of Economic Affairs in the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, Dušan Dinić, regional coordinator of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom in the Western Balkans and alumnisti from Croatian Liberal parties. CPP's Political Academy was represented by Jug Puljizević, associate of CPP's Central office and Daniel Hinšt, a member of CPP's Central Committee.
In his opening speech Gescher noted German structural reforms which have brought the benefit of the economy. The question is why Croatian Government does not implement reforms, what is responsibility of CPP also. Are politicians afraid of losing elections?
Participants from CPP pointed out that among the politicians and political parties, especially among liberals, a clear base of those who strongly advocate and want to implement in practice the free-market reforms should be created, which is currently not the case sufficiently. Reforms require interdepartmental coordination at government level but certain ministries are deliberately hindering reform. Nothing significant will change even if someone else takes over the government (alleged conservatives or new-grown Green Left).
The meeting concluded how it is very important that liberals performe together in advocating liberal market reforms. First of all, it fundamentally means changing the legislation that regulates the issue of civil servants in a direction that would allow mass layoffs of all those who hinder reforms as well as changes of regulations that burden the economy.
To make room for reducing youth unemployment, Croatia needs to start long-term thinking about development of the dual system of education that Germany has, said participants of the alumni meeting in their message.
