König: "Everyone is equal in front of the law"

zene webVukovar, 3rd of March 2014 – As part of the Academy's 2nd Department for additional education in general politics parliamentary representative and president of the Interest Committee of CPP's Female Initiative Sonja König held a lecture on the subject "Women and politics".

 

 

 

Speaking about the representedness of women in politics König started her lecture with article 14 of the Constitution of the Republic of Croatia which states that everyone in the Republic of Croatia has rights and freedoms, regardless about their race, skin color, sex, language, religion, political or other conviction, national or social background, property, birth, education, social standing or other characteristics.

"Everyone is equal in front of the law. Sexual equality means that women and men are equally present in all areas of public and private life, that they have equal status, equal opportunity for the realisation of all rights, as well as equal benefit from the realised results", highlighted König.

CPP's parliamentary representative brought out an overview of opinions about the general degree about the equality of men and women in the continuation, as well as the number of representatives in Croatia's parliament, and highlighted the percentage of women in parlaments of member states of the EU. Speaking about factors affecting the entrance of women into parliaments, König brought up the political, socio-economical and socio-cultural factor.

At the end of her lecture she touched upon article 15 of the Law of sexual equality which, in one of its parts, speaks that during the determination and proposal of a candidate list for the election of representatives into Croatia's parliament, for the election of members of representative bodies of units of local regional self-governance, as well as the election of members into the European parliament, political parties and other authorised proponents are obliged to respect the principle of sexual equality and take care of equal sexual representation on election lists.
"When there are only a few women in politics, women are changed. When there are a lot of women in politics, politics changes", concluded König at the end of her lecture with a motto of Argetina's feminists.

After the lecture the Founding Assembly of the Interest Committee of CPP's Female Initiative of CPP's Vukovar subsidiary was held, and Sonja König's lecture was a great introduction.

"CPP and Vukovar have gained additional quality with the founding of the Female Initiative" highlighted König specially highlighting that skills, knowledge and experience of women influence the quality and development of society.

Along with congratulations to new president Marija Takač, the head of Vukovar's CPP Nenad Bučko highlighted how proud he is of the Female Initiative expressing conviction that CPP's women will be the most active in political action in the City of Vukovar. He specially thanked CPP's parliamentary representative Sonja König at this opportunity, whi supported Vukovar's CPP women with her arrival.
