Organisation and the functioning of the City of Zagreb

ustroj zagreba webZagreb, 7th of March 2014 – As part of a lecture, CPP's City Organisation has held a lecture about the organisation and functionong of the City of Zagreb. The team consisting of Vedrana Gujić, member of its Presidency and Academy teacher and Tomislav Stojak, representative in the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb have brought closer the subject to everyone present in a simple, concrete and clear way.

 

 

 

The moderators divided the lecture into two parts where Gujić spoke about Zagreb and its ownership structure, and Stojak about the work of the City of Zagreb's City Assembly and the possibilities of acting of city representatives.

Gujić started her lecture with the basic information about Zagreb where she gave information about the number of inhabitants, housings and brought out the structure and acting on the basis of city quarters and local committees.

"The city of Zagreb has 790.017 inhabitants with an average age of 41,6 years, and the number of housings is 303.441. By its structure Zagreb acts on the basis of 17 city quarters and 218 local committees", said Gujić and, in the further part of her lecture brought out the information that Zagreb has a stake in eight city companies, those of which are either partial or 100%. As Gujić said, the largest city company is Zagreb holding which has 15 subsidiaries and business stakes in nine companies.

"In its ownership structure, Zagreb has health, social and educational institutions, institutions in culture, sports objects and other institutions such as a ZOO, a Public fire brigade and Zagreb film". Apart from the mentioned, Zagreb has in its ownership apartments, business and city spaces and land, and there are 91 districts, 30 religious communities and 22 national minorities", highlighted Gujić.

Speaking about the functioning of the city Assembly of the City of Zagreb Tomislav Stojak highlighted that the basic documents of it are the Statute and the rules.

"The city Assembly brings about decisions and other general acts with which it orders matters from the self-governing scope of the City of Zagreb, it brings about the city budget, the yearly budget calculation and the decision about temporary financing in harmony with the law. Apart from the already mentioned, the Assembly brings about spatial plans and ither spatial planning documents, declares parts of nature protected and chooses and relieves the president and vice-presidents of the City Assembly of the City of Zagreb", said Stojak and in the continuation introduced everyone to the work and possibilities of acting of city representatives.

"City representatives act in seventeen permanent work bodies of the Assembly, and the tools they use to act are questions, proposals, discussions in the name of the club, personal discussions, replicas, incorrect information, club breaks and news conferences", highlighted CPP's city representative.

At the end of his lecture, Stojak reminded on some of CPP's political proposals in the Assembly such as the initiative for better traffic solutions and the reduction of representative fees.

The lecture was held as part of the Academy's 1st Department for additional education of CPP's elected representatives in units of local self-governance and subsidiary presidents, city quarter and local committees councilmen and members of Team CPP of the City Organisation of the City of Zagreb.
